North Goa: Anjuna
We had a lot of fun in Anjuna. Tons of shopping and lots of riding around on mopeds. Close to Vagator it’s a great place to stay to nip in and out of nearby villages. The biggest draw of Anjuna is the flea market bringing in a vast number of people to wander around hundreds of stalls. We arrived at the beginning of November so just at the start of the peak season. We found our accommodation on the day however, if you are arriving later in the season you’ll probably have to book in advance.
Where to stay:
Reviews are rather mixed on TripAdivsor for Paradise Guesthouse. I think the main plus point is the location, walking distance to the beach and restaurants. We paid 1000 rupees per night which is probably overpriced for such a basic room but we didn’t really mind as we only stayed two nights. It’s certainly not luxury yet we only used it as a base.
We took a look around here when looking for a place to stay with our Australian friends. Rooms looked a bit on the basic side for such a high price tag. The swimming pool was great though which is probably the main selling point of the resort. Prices start from 2000 rupees.
On the flea market road is the Nirvana Hermitage hotel. I seem to be drawn to places with swimming pools for some reason and this one has very good reviews. The pool view villa looks great and comes with a 6000 rupee price tag. Prices start from around 3000 rupees.
Where to eat:
We went to a few restaurants along the roadside. There was a great burger place opposite our guesthouse with a very friendly owner who invited me over for drinks.
Not a sun-bathing beach but lovely for a sunset stroll. In the evenings you’ll find many people here parking up their mopeds and sitting on the clifftop.
Anjuna is home to the famous flea market held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Fran and I decided to pay a second visit on our last day in Goa for those last minute travelling purchases. I’m writing a dedicated blog post to it featuring all my wonderful purchases.
Would I go back?
I would 100% visit the flea market again however I don’t think there is any need to stay here. I would rather stay back in Vagator and simply drive through Anjuna.
